Life at SLU

Sing in the choir at 9 p.m. Mass. Dance the night away with Billikens After Dark. Cheer at Chaifetz Arena until your lungs hurt. Life at Saint Louis University is more than what happens in the classroom.

We believe in educating the whole person at SLU. We are not only concerned with the life of the mind, but also the life of the heart, body and spirit. It’s why our campus is rich with opportunities to get involved — to encourage you to become more complete, more balanced, more you.

Your time here should be an enriching adventure.

Step outside your comfort zone to discover something new about the world. You might be surprised about what you discover about yourself in the process.

What We Do

Billikens are an active bunch, with more than 150 on-campus organizations. We act with the UTheatre performance company, test the principles of flight with SLU Rocketry and sing a cappella with the Bare Naked Statues.  You'll never also be bored with on-campus entertainment options including:

How We Serve

Inspired by the Jesuit call to be men and women for others, service is an integral part of our identity. SLU students cook meals in the Campus Kitchen, provide legal advice to people in need and set aside a day each fall to make a difference through community service.

Student Development

Saint Louis University’s Division of Student Development is driven by the mission to provide you with programs, services and experiences that help you to develop as leaders. Our goal is to help shape you into a successful graduate who is holistically formed, critically reflective and socially and personally responsible.

Our staff is here to support your body through Simon Recreation Center and Student Health and Counseling services. We'll help you develop your mind at the Student Success Center and through SLU's Learning Communities. And we'll tend your spirit through not only Campus Ministry but also the Center for Service and Community Engagement.

Kent Porterfield, Ed.D., currently serves as the Vice President for Student Development at Saint Louis University. A firm believer in a holistic model of education, Porterfield works cooperatively with academic leaders to establish a range of collaborative initiatives, including learning communities, the Center for Global Citizenship, the Center for Service and Community Engagement and the Student Success Center.
